Polye’s big win suspicious
DON Polye’s landslide victory is applauded and yet I am suspicious as an independent observer. From the news article (The National, July 17), he scored 21,000 votes while the runner-up trailed behind with about 2,000 and the third with just a single vote making them a mockery of the process. If the 21,000 votes collected are honest and democratic, then Polye deserves an inscription on a plaque. Otherwise the win is undemocratic and is the single biggest national disaster at the polling of the national election. I am too skeptical of the much admired win of the Deputy Prime Minister and I am also compelled morally to explicitly express the unsaid sentiments of many Papua New Guineans. – Independent Observer, Port Moresby

Simbu needs good roads
I WOULD like to congratulate the seven new MPs elected in Simbu province. The people have invested trust and hope in your capabilities to deliver much needed services to them. With your victories, our hopes are renewed that there would be more developments taking place. As a Simbu citizen living and working in the remote areas of the province, I hope the new Kundiawa-Gembogl MP Joe Mek Teine will give priority to improve the Kundiawa-Gembogl road and bridges. His plan should also include upgrading Kundiawa town road networks. To have all Government services functioning smoothly, it is essential to have a good road network. – Vincent Don, Mt Wilhelm High School, Gembogl

Sir Rabbie a great model
Sir Rabbie Namaliu, you have been a great role model. Being a patriotic East New Britain lad, I am proud of your leadership quality you displayed in the last 25 years of your political career, as the member for Kokopo Open and as prime minister. You started of very well and you ended your political career very well. And this can be clearly viewed through the way you reacted to the declaration of your defeat. You were graciously cool, inspite of the member-elect being sarcastic about your defeat and saying such things as “sweet revenge for my father” that was a display of true leadership. I thank you for serving Papua New Guinea in the way you did. – Namete Junias Penial, Goroka

Digicel user not satisfied
I WANT to express my disappointment with the mobile phone I bought from Digicel. It was not one of the latest models. I suppose it was of those cheap unwanted phones from somewhere that Digicel decided to introduce to PNG. This particular model was selling like hot cakes as it was less than K100. I was also told by the sales people that I would be able to make calls to B Mobile users within days but I read in the paper that this was not so. Recently, I read that Digicel’s licence has been revoked. What will happen to those who have bought a Digicel phone? I regret buying a mobile phone from Digicel. – Little mobile bee, Port Moresby

Tiensten a capable leader
I WANT to thank the people of Pomio Open electorate in East New Britain province for giving their mandate to Paul Tiensten for another term. I have been observing him and his leadership for the last two years and that he has the quality of taking the people of Pomio and PNG forward. I understand he has done a lot of work for the electorate and I hope he will take the people forward in terms of service delivery and infrastructure development. He has strong leadership qualities and is capable of representing the people of Pomio and Papua New Guinea. – R K. Lepi, Port Moresby

SP Cup games lack security
I AM unhappy with the way SP Cup matches are organised this year. There should be police personnel at every SP Cup sanctioned grounds to ensure the safety of the public, players and match officials. There should be some form of entertainment like previous years. The dress codes for waterboys and ball boys must be addressed too. I was just disgusted last Sunday at the Lloyd Robson during the match between the Raiders and the Bulldogs when supporters ran onto the field before kick off. What happened to the security? Can the task force and mobile force be brought back to handle such unruly spectators? – Uppz, Via email
