UPNG not part of protest group

THE University of PNG (UPNG) is not part of a civil society group that opposes the formation of a new government by the National Alliance (NA), a student leader said yesterday.
Nicholas Embia, who is the president of the university’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC), said although they had facilitated a forum by a group of former university students who called themselves “Millennium for Good Governance”, they were not part of anti-NA campaign.
He said the group was urging Port Moresby residents to oppose the NA.
“We are not part of this group. We respect democracy and the processes followed during the elections and now the formation of Government. We do not want to disrupt the process of democracy,” Mr Embia said.
The “Millennium for Good Governance” group also held a rally at Tabari yesterday.
