Members urged to decide wisely for people’s
welfare

ALL newly-elected and re-elected Members of Parliament (MPs) have been urged to use their God-given abilities to make rational decisions for the welfare of their constituents in the next five years.
This call was made yesterday by the Amalgamated General Workers Union of Papua New Guinea.
The union secretary-general Andrew Kandakasi said the union and its members also congratulated the newly-elected members and those re-elected and paid their tribute to those who lost in the recent elections.
Mr Kandakasi said
AGWUPNG believed this was a challenge for them “to stand up on their principles rather than for material gains through corruption …”
“These elected leaders knew very well that they will represent their people in Government and live up to their promises,” he said in a statement released yesterday.
Mr Kandakasi expressed his satisfaction and appreciation that some creditable persons had been elected into Parliament, “which was shown through the ballots because these leaders deserved such accord from the citizenry”.
Noting the number of elected independent candidates, Mr Kandakasi said this could be an indication that the people want to see some kind of changes in the governance of this country.
“Therefore, it is up to these members to live to their principles,” Mr Kandakasi said.
