Polye urged to vie for PM job

By ZACHERY PER
DEPUTY Prime Minister Don Polye has been called on to offer himself as a candidate for the seat of the prime minister.
Kani Aninave, a local councillor from Henganofi, Eastern Highlands province, made the call in Goroka yesterday.
“A Highlands prime minister is needed for a long time and with the opportunity at hand, Mr Polye should put his hands up for the top post,” Cr Aninave said.
He said the Highlands region had vast natural resources that included oil, gas, gold and coffee, which are major revenue earners.
Cr Aninave also said other Highlands leaders, either independents or those affiliated with other political parties, would be happy to team up for a Highlands prime minister.
This view was also supported by Highlanders living in Lae.
“We would like to see that NA put up a Highlander to lead the coalition Government as the region has returned a good number in this election,” Kay Takiseng, the spokesperson of the Highlands leaders in Lae, said.
“We see that the Momase region had benefited more than any other regions for the last three or four years and we would like the leadership to be with one of the Highlands blocs so that delivery of basic goods and services could be also reach our people,” Mr Takiseng said.
