PNG School Journal launching

READING and literacy in the country will receive a boost today when the National Department of Education launches the Papua New Guinea School Journal at the Holiday Inn in Port Moresby.
To be distributed free
to various schools, the journal contains non-fiction stories, plays, poems and activities written and illustrated by Papua
New Guineans.
Secretary for Education Dr Joseph Pagelio said the magazine would be issued to schools in three levels.
“The three levels include the bridging level, to be used by Grade 3 pupils, the junior level Grades 4 and 5 and the senior level, designed for Grade 6 to 8 students,” Dr Pagelio said.
He said the school journal aimed to support reading and literacy across the curriculum, to support other areas of the curriculum, to foster a love for reading and to reflect PNG culture and the life of the children.
In today’s launch, there will be a display of the journal in several editions, children’s performances and instructions on the different ways to use School Journal stories in the classroom.
The journal was being published with funding and technical assistance from the New Zealand government.
