Roadblock prevents students from travelling

By SENT TIMBI

MORE than 40 students in Mount Hagen Technical College who are from Enga and Southern Highlands province have been stranded in Mount Hagen because of the roadblock at Togoba outside Mount Hagen city.
The students, who completed short courses offered at the college on heavy diesel equipment fitter, auto electrical, carpentry and joinery, could not make it home.
Some of the students who waited at the bus stop yesterday afternoon, told The National it cost was costing them extra money to remain in the city.
Two of their representatives, Allen Pakia and Ricky Dakul, said since Monday no PMVs had arrived from Southern Highlands or even Enga.
They said many of the PMV operators were afraid that their vehicles might be robbed or damaged along the Keltiga and Togoba section of the Highlands Highway.
They said that many students were taken in by friends and relatives in the city.
Mr Pakia said other travellers had also been affected.
He said the road was a national road and people living along the throroughfare must respect other people, business houses and other organisations that are using the highway.
He said villagers were setting a bad example to others in the region and also to other parts of the country by holding innocent people at ransom.
