Team PNG link up with Telikom funds
By HENRY MORABANG
LEADING Telecommunication Company in the country, Telikom PNG,
has donated more than K300,000 including the K200,000 to PNG
Sports Federation for the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, at the end
of the month.
The sponsorship includes K200,000 cash, 400 Mobile phones, 400
B-Mobile SIM cards and 400 Samoa Telsim cards
An elated PNGSF secretary Sir John Dawanincura stated: “What can I
say except fantastic and thank you, thank you Telikom!”
He said obviously this is unprecedented in that PNGSF have not
been so fortunate in the past with regard to our athletes and
officials having the ability to communicate with home as well as
each other during the games.
Again this is a fantastic sponsorship package.
Sir John said put in the words of Jim Robins at last week’s
Telikom’s presentation to boxing in a slightly different context:-
To be successful, Team PNG has to:
*Be elusive;
*Be skillful, and most importantly
*B Mobile
He said the competition will certainly be at its best from New
Caledonia, Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti and even Nauru (weightlifting).
Sir John said PNG’s goal is to be in the top 5 is realistic
because Fiji, Samoa and New Caledonia in particular will enter
most events in all sports whereas Team PNG will be competing in 24
out of 33 sports.
He said PNG already behind in the total medal count even before we
leave PNG but as Aopi has stated “we love to compete and we will
be competitive because Team PNG will no doubt be the best prepared
since the 1991 South Pacific Games in PNG with the support of MRDC
and we are looking forward to the competition ahead.
Despite the preparations that have taken place we still have a
shortfall to get our team to the Games, and I must say that
tonight’s sponsorship package announced by Telikom is just simply
fantastic.
Many may not know that Telikom has been one of our silent
Corporate Sponsors over the last 9 years towards our
communications costs at K20,000 a yearannum.
Their sponsorship package puts them into the category of Platinum
and a Major Sponsor of Team PNG.
