Southern Zone also ready
By DAVID KAPI
A Southern Zone team has been named
from a trial match held in Port Moresby last weekend.
The 20-man squad mainly from the Port Moresby rugby league
competition will fly to Goroka this weekend to defend their title
in the recently revived inaugural Zones Championship involving
second string of players involved in local league affiliated with
the Papua New Rugby Football League, the main official body that
runs the affairs of the game in the country.
The team chosen by the selection panel after a trail match last
Sunday between Port Moresby and Rigo Central select side in which
the city side clearly outclassed the rural boys 56-4 will travel
to Goroka either tomorrow or on Saturday.
However, due to logistic reasons Alotau, Tabubil, Rigo East-Coast,
Malalaua and Daru have not participated in this Southern zones
trial over the weekend, where only Moresby and Rigo took part.
Meanwhile, Northern, Highlands and Islands zones have already
selected their team after trial matches held over the weekend in
their respective zones and it is anticipated to bringing rural
rugby league to the next level.
The Southern Zone team is under the guidance of Brothers coach
Jonathan Ninkama while Phillip Boge of Hawks serve as trainer and
Jacob Wakis of Waliya is the team manager.
Southern Zone squad is: Boge Digana, Henley Faita, Mathias Emiabo,
Ora Roy, Barry Pekaaea, Steve Gumua, Nick Omaro, Mea Mirira, Oala
Frank, David Kaiabe, Bobby Mori, Peter Wemin, Sine Kuman, Momoa
Nuana, Paul Kambi, Enoch Yori, Elijah Enoch, Sens Pisimi, James
