THE National Research Institute (NRI) in Port Moresby yesterday launched
its first ever ‘Spotlight with NRI’ bulletins in a four leaflet format.
The first volume of ‘Spotlight with NRI’ announced this very first
initiative with the three other volumes (Vol 2 - 4) dealing with
specific issues currently faced in PNG as a developing nation.
In announcing the four-paged four volume newsletter, NRI director Dr
Thomas Webster yesterday said the publications were presented in compact
volumes, dealing with separate specific issues.
He said their presentation was targeted at all Papua New Guineans but
particularly for decision makers, who were normally busy people, so that
they could take less time to read the information presented.
The first volume launched yesterday announced the new addition and the
existing range of NRI’s research publications.
Dr Webster said the issues in the newletter dealt with current issues
such as the appraisal of the Air Niugini-Qantas code-sharing
arrangement, the foreign aid syndromes and the need for competition in
the mobile communication market.
“Spotlight with NRI will provide a forum for policy advocacy and debate
through an open call for contributions,” he said.
“It is a new face of NRI’s currently existing publication and this new
addition is intended to respond to the call from policy stakeholders for
up-to-date information and different viewpoints on priority issues,
policies, and trends.”
The various issues dealt with will be disseminated as a printed
publication, and as an electronic publication on the NRI website.
Present for the launch were key departmental heads including secretary
for Treasury Simon Tosali, Australian High Commissioner Louis Moraitis
and representatives from other foreign embassies including Japan and
China.
