Finalists face up again in netball

By WENDY KATUSELE
DEFENDING champions KK Kingston Sparrows face Esco Telstars in the major semi finals of the Port Moresby netball competition tomorrow in what should be a fiery battle at the Rita Flynn courts.
It is again the replay of last year’s premiership decider when the two team met with Sparrows ending Telstars dominance.
The winner of this match will earn the first grand final berth while the loser to take on the winner of minor semi finals between DHL Wild Cats and City Pharmacy Rebels on Sunday.
On record this season has see Sparrows winning the second round match while Telstars on top in the first round so this is anybody’s game with the team with less mistakes on court to come out victors.
Julienne Leka-Maliaki’s led Sparrows have had an outstanding season finishing on top of the competition ladder and again it is up to goal shooter Nettie Sau, goal attack Sakora Gumana or Maliaki should one of them take the first call up in the first line up to come good under the post.
But Telstars have the flexibility of goal keeper and Pepes international Raka Nope with the support of young Amanda Taumata to keep Sparrows shooting combination off bay.
Sparrows boast one of the best mid court in the competition with internationals Naomi Taviri - Leka (C), Dianne Kala (WA) and young Alu Opina (WD) who should once again direct traffic while defenders Kilala Owen and Lorna Maso take charge of marring Telstars goal shooters Albertine Ehari and Pepes captain Monalisa Leka.
Leka has been instrumental under the post utilizing her experience and again will be relied on repeat that fine performance especially against her big sisters on the opposite camp.
The ever-green Leka would expect support from mid court in Patricia Karukuru, Andiopa Sabadi and Margaret Ani to deliver the goods up front.
While in the minor semi finals newcomers Wild Cats in their first season in the competition made a remarkable finish at fourth place and are set to compliment that with a win over Rebels but with a strong Rebels outfit, the road to victory is going to be long.
Rebels with international and point shooter Lua Mavara is set again to dominate the ring but it is up to Wild Cats defenders former international Manu Sine and Susan Paiso to stay intact.
For Wild Cats it is up to goal shooter Toka Kini and Solitha Roge to produce a 100 percent shooting rate to keep their finals hopes alive.
Meanwhile all junior finals will also be played tomorrow and the next day.
