New link for Mangi Rugby

THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football
became the first sport in the country to benefit from a lucrative
sponsorship package from new telecommunication company Digicel PNG
for the next three years.
While the substantial amount of money was not disclosed, the
sponsorship deal further cements PNGFRU’s dream of qualifying for
the International Rugby Board’s World Cup in 2011 with the
national 15s team having the exclusive naming rights furthermore
Digicel being the major sponsor of the sevens Pukpuks team for the
next in a two year contract.
The sponsorship deal of the 15s team will assist in achieving
ultimate goal of the PNGRFU to qualify for the 2011 world cup in
New Zealand with funding also allocated to community development
programs and initiatives by PNGFRU primarily the “Mangi rugby
development programme’
The now popular junior program is attracting youths from all
suburbs of the Port Moresby with over 500 children between the
ages of 12 and 16.
The deal also will allow for the junior players to join training
camps and train alongside their senior players.
It is also anticipated that the partnership deal will support
training camps, strength and conditioning programs with lead up
match including IRB’s FORU Cup in 2008 and 2009.
The national sevens team currently in camp in Port Moresby who
witnessed the launch of the sponsorship deal yesterday also have
benefit of achieving their goal of qualifying of the IRB’s 7’s
circuit.
