Telikom for more market visibility
By BIBIAN BARRENG
TELIKOM (PNG) Ltd is “re-positioning”
for a more visible view of the market-place and for customers to
see “where it stands today”.
This was the key focus for Telikom following the launching of
their commercial advertisement last night in Port Moresby.
Peter Loko, the acting chief executive officer, noted that this
was not a sudden move by Telikom but rather had been coming for
some time.
“Many of the changes we are making today are possible because we
have very significantly increased our customer base.
“So we are able to change ourselves, to suit the changes in our
customers’ needs and expectation, and to respond to growth and
customer demand that is ever on the increase” Mr Loko said.
Mr Loko also said Telikom is still the sole provider of a national
telecommunications network, the only licensed general carrier, the
only provider of fixed line services internet gateway and a host
of other essential communications links in the country.
“… and the only mobile provider that gives its customers access to
more than 300,000 fixed and mobile telephone customers
nationwide.”
Mr Loko said the customer base had grown dramatically and that
change had enabled Telikom to do business in a different way.
For so long, the general public has had negative perception on the
52-year-old telco and was asking why Telikom was suddenly
determined to change an image which it has been satisfied with for
a long time.
Reacting to this Mr Loko said: “We are human … we are not perfect
… but that was then and this is now, and there is nothing weary
about our recent performance, particularly in mobile phone sales.”
He said the telco was “called on to serve and not to disappoint
its customers”, adding that “it would be looking at newer ways of
improving their services”.
