SHP ops to wind down this week

ABOUT 500 security personnel engaged in the Southern Highlands special police operations will wind down and leave by Wednesday.
Special operations commander chief superintendent Samson Mapi told The National in Mendi last week that they had received directives from police commissioner Gari Baki to leave by that date.
He said the troops included about 250 policemen brought in from different parts of PNG and about 200 PNG Defense Force soldiers from Moem barracks in Wewak, Taurama in Port Moresby and an engineering division from Igam in Lae.
They were deployed during the state of emergency operations imposed by the National Government and stayed on to provide security during the elections.
