Public servants told to perform

By ELIZABETH MIAE
PUBLIC servants in the Gulf province have been urged to perform or they will be disciplined.
This was the message from governor-elect Havila Kavo last week amid fears by public servants in the province that he was in Kokopo to lobby for a ministry in the National Government.
Mr Kavo made it clear through provincial administrator Miai Larelake that he was not in any position to take up a ministry and would honour his campaign promise by sticking to the governorship.
He was in Kokopo along with three other members of the People’s National Congress (PNC) Party including party leader Peter O’Neill, to team up with the National Alliance (NA) party to form the new government.
Mr Kavo called on the public servants in the province to return to work and assured them that there was nothing to fear.
He made a similar call during his victory speech to all the public servants that they were expected to perform as he would not hesitate to direct his administrator to discipline those who failed to do so.
Former governor Chris Haiveta had encouraged Mr Larelake to work closely with the new governor and to continue with the completion of all developmental projects in the province.
