Misima police station now has a vehicle to support its efforts in fighting crime
on the island after a Toyota 10-seater Land Cruiser was handed over to them on
Aug 4.
In a brief ceremony at the Alotau police station, Samarai Murua MP Gordon Wesley
handed over the vehicle to police station commander Libai Stanley.
Mr Wesley acknowledged the Samarai-Murua administration in their efforts to
contain law and order to ensure peace and harmony in the district.
He said he was proud to be the first MP since Independence to present a police
vehicle with due respect to former Milne Bay leaders.
He added that as an MP and member of the Joint District Planning and Priority
Committee, he thanked the committee members for their foresight and decision to
find the vehicle.
“I trust the police will appreciate this assistance and will effectively use it
to benefit the people and district and I also hope the police will provide
budgetary support for the vehicle,” he said.
Mr Wesley handed over the vehicle hours after arriving from Kokopo along with
other Milne Bay members including Alotau Open MP Charles Abel and Milne Bay
Governor John Luke.
They arrived from Kokopo after intensely lobbying with other parties to form
government.
Mr Stanley thanked Mr Wesley for supporting the Misima police.
He said since 2005, the police there did not have a proper vehicle to support
their work and the donation of the vehicle was timely.
The reconditioned vehicle was bought from Best Cars in Port Moresby and will
later be shipped from Alotau to Misima by boat.
The district will also receive a boost in its transport needs with the provision
of a sea ambulance, a district administration vehicle and a sub-district office
vehicle according to Samarai-Murua district administrator Hayden Abraham.
