26 undergo OOH so far

By ALISON ANIS
THE Operation Open Heart (OOH) currently underway at the Port Moresby General Hospital under the stewardship of Australian medical team has seen good results so far with the successful operations of 26 patients as of yesterday.
Cardiologist Dr Nakapi Tefuarani, who assisted with the operations alongside other PNG medical staff, said all went well with no deaths reported since the start of OOH last Friday.
He said that of the 26 patients operated during the week, 15 had undergone open heart surgery while the rest underwent close heart surgery.
Three adults were among the group of children who were operated yesterday.
“It has been tough but operations went well because local staff as well as the overseas staff have been working very hard to ensure that the operations were successful,” Dr Tefuarani said.
Normal operations at the hospital have been scaled down since last Friday and OOH has now become the focus of attention this week with a target to finish this Thursday.
