Lae ready to host AFL national titles

AFL PNG is set to host national championships for both junior and seniors next month.
The SP National Senior Championship again will be held in Laeís Eriku Oval from Sept 15 to 17 to coincide with the Independence while junior championships will be staged a week later at the same grounds.
The seniors will have to play the round robin games to their best as it also be their opportunity to showcase what they are capable off to national selectors for a spot in the PNG Mosquitoes team that will be participating in the AFL International Cup to be held in Melbourne, Australia, in August next year.
AFL PNG president Peter Michael said that already six teams in Lae Red, NCD Laurabada, West New Britain, Mount Hagen, Lae Gold, NCD Mirigini have put their hands up for round robin games plus few others who are yet to confirm their involvement.
Michael said that given so many talents on the rise, the Mosquito team will consist of overseas base players blended with local players with a mix of youth and experience for the campaign for the international meet and players need to prove to selectors that they are in the national team
AFL PNG will hire a bus for transport of teams to and fro from Eriku Oval but all teams will be responsible for the arrangement of meals and accommodation in Lae for themselves.
For enquiries, Peter Michael can be contacted on phone 323 3488 or Thomas Gori on phone 472 4711.
