GOOD grief! It’s Friday. Now then – if you’re in the
capital, set aside tonight or tomorrow night at 7.30 for a magical theatre experience. The unforgettable Love Letters, this time with Ann Button-Smith and her husband Duncan directed by Russell Jackson, will once again grip audiences at Moresby Arts Theatre. It’s a must-see.

MOST people would agree that Oz is one of the world’s more technologically innovative nations. All the more extraordinary then that the country continues to house dozens of level crossings, where roadways cross railway lines. There’s no bridge – both the road and the rails are on the same level, hence the name.
***
QUITE often these oddities are in the middle of nowhere, with only the supercilious stares of a herd of sheep for company. Yet despite the presence of usually rusty metal gates and sometimes even an automatically activated warning bell, these crossings account for a surprisingly large number of collisions and deaths each year. Surely it’s time to eliminate these hazards?

NO more potentially chubby hubbies in Dubai’s capital Abu Dhabi, it seems. Physical education is about to become compulsory in all public schools. Wonder if that decree also covers wannabe-weighty wives? Some 22,000 senior students will shortly be undertaking push-ups.
***
AND did you also note the brief account of a cat that fell eight stories but apart from a new wind-blown fur-style and the odd misplaced life or two, survived admirably. He must have used his ears, which have 34 muscles each, as wind-breaks.

SPEAKING of odd journeys, Spy in Madang travelled on one of the American helicopters ferrying sick passengers to the USS Peleliu, undertaking medical duties in his part of the ocean recently.
***
APPARENTLY the Ancient Scribbler revelled in his 15 minutes aboard the purely utilitarian but very large chopper with some 20 seats or so down the sides, unlined fuselage and open access rear end. Hmmm – we think he paid far closer attention to the brace of comely US nurses on the same flight.
