PUBLIC servants in Eastern Highlands
province have indicated that they are ready and willing to work
along with the nine parliamentarians of the province.
Eastern Highlands provincial administrator Munare Uyassi said
this yesterday during an induction session of the EHP MPs in
Goroka.
Mr Uyassi said the united stand by the nine MPs had also boosted
the morale of the public servants in the province to work hard
to best serve Eastern Highlands.
EHP provincial DAL adviser Bubia Muhuju said he was happy with
the declaration by the EHP MPs to work as a team to develop the
province.
Additionally, provincial health adviser Ben Haili said working
as a team by the MPs would assist in developing new projects in
the province.
Mr Uyassi said a three-day induction programme, which commenced
on Wednesday, was aimed at giving the MPs a better understanding
of the different roles and functions of the provincial
administration divisions.
He added the induction would later assist the MPs when they make
submissions and even project proposals to know which department
was handling it so there was a smooth flow of services delivery
and better understanding of the various functions.
The induction of MPs was initiated by the Governor Malcolm Kela-Smith
and Mr Uyassi.
Mr Uyassi, in acknowledging the new EHP MPs said the province
needed new and good ideas to move the administration.
He explained the MPs made policies and it was the public
servants who implement them.
The induction also covered the roles and function of the joint
district planning and budget priority committee and the budget
and planning processes.
The nine MPs and Mr Kela-Smith will be addressing public
servants, non-governmental organisations and the civil society
today at the University of Goroka’s Mark Solon auditorium.
