Man pleads guilty to unlawful use of vehicle

A MAN from Goroka in the Eastern Highlands province pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful use of motor vehicle in the National Court in Lae on Wednesday morning after he negotiated and plotted the illegal sale of a Toyota Landcruiser belonging to another company to a buyer in Goroka town.
Michael Roru, 36, and married with three wives appeared before Lae resident judge Justice Sao Gabi and pleaded guilty to the charge after Justice Gabi read out the charge to him.
The court heard that Roru conspired with an accomplice, Kingsley Kanasa, who had appeared previously in the National Court and subsequently sentenced to five years in jail with hard labour for the same crime.
The court heard that between last June 7 and 21, the two planned to sell the vehicle which belonged to a company called Raga 69 Limited in Lae by forging registration papers of the vehicle.
The court heard that the prisoner obtained the vehicle and was about to sell it to a buyer in Goroka when police in Lae intervened and arrested him after uncovering the plot,
He was brought to Lae, where he was charged and detained.
The court heard that the vehicle, with registration number LAF 512, was recovered by the police in good condition despite missing its front spot lights and returned to its owner.
The court was then adjourned to Sept 10 for ruling on sentence for the prisoner.
