Wewak drainage stupidity

THE Wewak storm water drainage project is like the tower of Babel, doomed to fail from the day it was conceived.
For a start, the people who were to manage this project were not qualified and never understood the concept of “storm water drainage”.
For any drainage system to work, there must be a “fall” or slope for water to flow out. Most of the area around Wewak is below the sea level. Thus, it is almost impossible to get a slopping drain from the land to the sea.
The exercise was a waste of time and effort but somehow, money was made available.
The only available option is to land fill these low-lying areas of the east coast of Wewak by about 5m so that they are almost similar to the height of the west coast, higher than the sea level.
The logistics, civil works and humanitarian aspects to get this task done would be massive and beyond the scope of these project managers.
This project only confirms the stupidity of the people involved in it.

Project of doom
