WATER started flowing to the Kwikila health
centre last Sunday thanks to the Central provincial administration.
The provincial administration provided funding for materials for the
water supply to the Rigo district health centre since it had not had any
water for some time.
Provincial administrator Raphael Yibmaramba said last Saturday that the
health centre and staff houses should have normal flow of water
following work done by Rigo village health volunteers and several
provincial health staff.
Mr Yibmaramba said since 2001, there was no flow of water to the centre
but for some time, the administration had been maintaining the
facilities.
The water pipes were vandalised by people from Kwikila station and the
nearby villages.
He said this was the last time the administration would maintain the
facilities and warned that if they were vandalised again, he will have
no choice but to shut down the health centre and relocate its staff.
Mr Yibmaramba said the on and off operation of the health centre was
mainly due to the frequent vandalism of the facilities.
The health centre serves 38,000 people in the district.
He called on the respective village leaders and the people of the
surrounding villages to assist his administration in ensuring the
facilities were looked after as they were costly and expensive to
maintain.
To date, the provincial administration has spent K30,000 to restore
water to the centre.
