NHC management refutes media report

The National Housing Corporation (NHC) management have denied media report that NHC will engage with a foreign company to build 100,000 houses for K2 billion over 15 years.
Managing director Paul Asukusa said NHC, as the agent of government on housing, was only obligated to carrying out and implementing government policies on housing.
However, he said neither the management nor the minister responsible Andrew Kumbakor, had any knowledge of the alleged engagement as reported by the Sunday Chronicle on Aug 19.
Mr Asukusa said on Friday that NHC with key line agencies had held various discussions with international and local investors for possible partnership arrangements to implement the Government’s national housing development project in line with the NEC decision No. 304/2006.
“There is nothing tangible at this point in time. NHC can only enter into contractual arrangement upon advice and decision from the National Executive Council,” he said.
He said NHC had an open policy to address chronic housing problems in the country through directions from the Government.
While commenting on the media report, Mr Asukusa said the allegations were the work of disgruntled junior public servants who were trying to create civil disorder and attempting to wrangle power.
