Relieved parents laud education subsidies
We, the poor parents, are relieved from the burdens of paying school fees this year 2007.
The Somare Government had subsidised elementary and secondary level fees and now, we are very happy.
If the K100 million is allocated for school fee subsidy every year, the NA Government is guaranteed to return every election year. -Moxii M Kewiti, Mt Hagen, WHP

Dame Carol deserves ministry
I REFER to the comments made by George Lavari, a candidate for Port Moresby South asking the Prime Minister not to allocate a portfolio to Dame Carol Kidu because of a petition against her (Aug 29). Bro, I am so sorry but it is sad to know that you have contested against somebody who has done much for the people of Port Moresby South. My question is why contest when we have good leaders? Is it to satisfy your greed? I am so sorry but Dame Carol deserve a ministry as she has done pretty well for this country in her post as Community Development Minister. – Mangi POM South, Port Moresby

Tamioks not true reps
I REFER to the article “Tamioks on final quest for a medal” (Aug 20). The Papua New Guinean national women’s hockey team does not truly reflect the Tamioks. It is made up of too many family members, which clearly portrays nepotism, and deprived the rights of many young and upcoming talented individuals from the various associations. Players and officials in the national team should be selected on merit . – Concerned hockey player, Port Moresby

Hospital clean-up due
THE people of East Sepik province would like to see major changes taking place in the Wewak General Hospital following the appointment of Dr Louis Samiak as the new CEO. Dr Samiak is an experienced
administrator and we trust he will get rid of some rotten apples in the yard. – John Kriosaki, Wewak

Sick of Telikom ads
I AM sick of watching those costly Telikom ads on TV which must have cost thousands of kina to make. For far too long we have had to put up with an unreliable,
expensive and inefficient phone service. Most rural areas have no phone service at all. While the rest of the world is getting faster and cheaper telecommunication services, Telikom’s charges are becoming costlier. Digicel has shown us what the rest of the world is enjoying. Stop wasting taxpayers’ money on useless TV ads. – Aukana, Mumeng, Morobe province

SHP prayers answered
GOD has answered our prayers and we now have a new captain to chart the course for Southern Highlands province. With a new captain and some brilliant MPs on board, we can expect a smooth voyage in the right direction over the next five years. – Street rumor, Mendi

Goi, the agent of change
ON behalf of my family and clansmen, I would like to congratulate Jimi Open MP Wake Goi. I am confident that you will be the agent of change and finally bring services and progress to the electorate. I urge everyone in the electorate to work together with the new MP. – Ondkondo Bii Moli, Goroka

No progress in Angoram
I REFER to the letter “Angoram neglected” (Aug 21). As a true Angurum, the people have trusted you, Grand Chief, for the past 30 years and your son, Arthur, by returning him to a second term in Parliament. However, you have let us down as there is no progress or development in Angoram. Are we going to continue missing out over the next five years? – Keram Yenzah, Via email

Women reps overdue
ABOUT time the bill to have women reps in Parliament is being implemented. It’s been long overdue. Thank you, PM. – NK, Canberra

Proposal makes sense
NOT everyone can afford to fly between the Highlands and Port Moresby. Don Polye’s proposal to build a highway to link the capital and the Highlands makes sense as it will be cheaper to travel by road. We, the poor grassroots people, urge Polye to act now to make the highway become a reality. – Grassroots supporter, Via email

Ad prone to mimicry
THE animated Bu advertisement shown over EMTV needs a review as many parents are unhappy with it. Children are hyperactive and can easily mimic what they see on TV. Just imagine a kid taking a sip of a Bu drink and running on to the road to stop a moving vehicle. The PNG Movie/Screenplay Censorship Board should recommend a toned down or modified version of this advertisement or even ban it. – Wapukin McIngi-Ingi, Port Moresby
