RDP and PP miss out

THE Rural Development Party led by Esa’ala MP Moses Maladina did not feature in the cabinet announced by the Prime Minister yesterday.
Mr Maladina said that as a party that signed the Warangoi Accord with the National Alliance Party, they were disappointed at being left out.
“As a party, we’re disappointed because we were party to the Warangoi Agreement. We kept our part of the bargain, and trusted that NA would keep its part of the bargain. We have not been told as to why we were left out,” Mr Maladina said.
It is understood ministries were to be distributed among all coalition partners on a ratio of three to one. RDP has four MPs, all of whom were in Kokopo and voted for the prime minister.
Another group that missed out was the People’s Party led by Enga Governor Peter Ipatas.
Mr Ipatas said yesterday that their exclusion was not a surprise.
He said they did not sign the Warangoi Accord.
He also said internal Enga politics may also contributed to the outcome.
But he said he was assured by the prime minister that the party would be considered in other areas like appointment on parliamentary committees.
Mr Ipatas said he had assured the prime minister he would not put pressure on him.
He also welcomed the appointment of Enga MPs Sam Abal (Wabag, Foreign Affairs and Immigration) and Don Polye (Kandep, Works, Transport and Civil Aviation) to senior ministries.
