Official vehicles given to districts

SOUTHERN Highlands Governor Anderson Agiru last Friday gave away his newly-allocated official vehicle to the Kaupena-based police highway patrol unit 17.
Mr Agiru also gave his support vehicle to the Komo-Margarima joint district budget priority and planning committee.
The two brand new Toyota 10-seater vehicles that cost more than K120,000 each were purchased from Ela Motors by the provincial administration and allocated to the Governor as his official and support vehicles.
They were among 10 vehicles purchased for the new provincial government and administration.
Mr Agiru said it was totally a waste of public funds and irrelevant for politicians and senior public servants to purchase that many vehicles to benefit only a few who would drive around in comfort, while the bulk of the population suffered in the outback with hardly no government goods and services.
He also delivered another third vehicle assigned for the provincial administrator to Nipa-Kutubu JDBPPC.
Mr Agiru said leaders and public servants in the province needed some ‘belt tightening’.
He also ordered that seven new vehicles be also delivered to the districts for their JDBPPC purposes too.
