Sumkar election challenged

Brig Gen Jerry Singirok (retired) has filed a petition disputing the election of Ken Fairweather for the Sumkar Open in Madang province.
The runner-up is alleging bribery before and during the campaign period.
Gen Singirok’s lawyers have compiled over 20 allegations in the petition filed in Port Moresby last week.
Gen Singirok said in a statement that he was concerned with the trend in Sumkar where voters demanded cash and goods for their votes.
He also slammed the promise for free education during the campaign.
Gen Singirok said his campaign was based on open and transparent actions.
