NORTH Bougainville MP and Mining Minister in the caretaker Government
Michael Ogio has called for the Bougainville administration and the
public service to perform to their best of their abilities.
Mr Ogio made the call following what he described as lack of discipline,
respect and integrity within the public service leadership.
He said in the past Bougainville public service was recognised to be one
of the best in the country but now such recognition is slowly declining
because of ignorance and lack of respect in offices.
“We, the four national Members, want to see our administration and the
public service to implement whatever projects or infrastructure that
funding is allocated for,” Mr Ogio said.
He added that they were prepared to work as a team in sourcing funds to
continue on with projects and developments which the other previous
Members had vacated.
Mr Ogio challenged the administration to pull up its socks and to ensure
that all funds drawn down from the Members were used to deliver service
to the people.
“In the past, funds drawn down by Members to the public service for
implementation of projects were misused,” Mr Ogio said.
He said the people of Bougainville had suffered long enough and “now it
is about time that we serve and deliver the best Government services to
the people”.
He stressed that for this to happen, it would need respect, integrity
and commitment from all public servants in order to carry out their
duties with honesty.
