PNG-China ties solid: Hu

PAPUA New Guinea Ambassador to China John Momis has presented his credentials to president Hu Jintao of China.
During a brief meeting last Wednesday that immediately followed the acceptance of his credentials by the Chinese head of State, Hu reiterated the fact that China’s bilateral relations with PNG continued to blossom.
Mr Hu in a statement said this was evident in the level of visitations done by its leaders, making special mention of Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare’s 2004 State visit to China, and most recently, the Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane’s visit in Oct ober 2006 to commemorate 30 years of PNG-Sino bilateral relations.
Mr Hu made specific mention of PNG’s commitment to its bilateral relations with China, when it appointed one of its very senior Statesmen as Ambassador to China.
The Chinese president also drew attention to the fact that the importance of this ever burgeoning relationship between the two countries was such that he had always looked forward to meet the prime minister during the annual and upcoming Apec Summits.
Mr Hu said he hoped both countries would continue to build on these initiatives and mutually beneficial co-operation mechanisms, for the betterment of their people.
