Health talks starts today

ORAL health and head and neck diseases will be the main topics discussed at the annual 43rd medical symposium that starts today and ends on Friday, with over 60 local and visiting doctors expected to participate.
The symposium will be officially opened by Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane with the keynote address to be given by pioneering head and neck surgeon Dr Frank George Smyth, who had worked in PNG for over 30 years.
Participants will present papers based on research done locally and internationally, including other topics on HIV/AIDS, dentistry, pregnancy, development of human resource and medical equipment and facilities in the country.
Other important topics based on research done locally will include risky sexual behaviour among women who sell sex, male circumcision and HIV transmission, prevention of women’s cancer and access to mental health services.
The symposium is organised by the Medical Society of Papua New Guinea and will take place at the Sir John Guise Stadium’s Indoor Complex.
Organisers have prepared well and are confident that the symposium will be a success.
