Data Nets expands

DATA Nets Ltd recently completed the purchase of 80% of NEC (PNG) Ltd, the country’s leading PABX (private automatic branch exchange) and telephone products supplier.
The purchase included contracts with major Government and corporate entities in Papua New Guinea.
Data Nets, being a nationally-owned company with majority of shares owned by the National Superannuation Fund (Nasfund), was excited about the growing industry.
“This is an exciting growing industry to be involved in and we see this acquisition as a solid entry point for the ever-increasing demand throughout the region for information and communications technologies and the rapid convergence of voice and data networks,” Data Nets general manager Sundar Ramamurthy said.
Data Nets is a leading supplier of data communications solutions including broadband and wireless internet services through its local point of presence in nine towns.
The company is also involved in E-commerce solutions, having the first internet-based payment gateway in the Pacific.
NEC (PNG) Ltd general manager Renzo Toniotti noted that there was significant business opportunities with PNG and the Pacific region which his company intends to explore.
