East Sepik-Sandaun Highway complete

TRAVELLING and transport of goods and services between East Sepik and Sandaun provinces is now easier with the completion of the East Sepik-Sandaun Highway.
The major thoroughfare links the capital towns of Vanimo in the Sandaun province and Wewak in East Sepik province.
Vanimo Forest Products Limited (VFP), a logging company in Sandaun worked on the 114km highway and is gradually completing roads going to the coastal villages and villages in the hinterland.
All villages in the Vanimo, Bewani and Amanab districts are currently linked to the highway.
Last Friday, after all elected Members of Parliament from Sandaun province were sworn in as member of the provincial assembly, Governor Simon Solo and provincial administrator Joseph Sungi joined in the inspection tour to the East Sepik-Sandaun Highway together with VFP officials.
Mr Solo was impressed and commended the company for its good work in the province.
He thanked VFP for constructing the highway to link the two provinces, and for linking various villages around Vanimo to the highway.
VFP has also accepted a request to upgrade the Sumo-Ramo section of the highway which goes into Aitape, although that section of the road is outside its area.
