MPs urged to look after Morobe province

By PETER KORUGL
MOROBE has enough strength on the floor of Parliament to tell the National Government to look after its people, MP for Tewai-Siassi Michael Vincent said.
“We have 10 MPs in Parliament to tell the Government to look after Morobe,” Mr Vincent said in his inaugural address to the Morobe Tutumang last Friday.
Mr Vincent said the MPs had a duty to build up Morobe and they should ensure that funding was provided for services to be delivered to the people.
“This is our task. We have to develop the province, its districts and villages,” Mr Vincent said.
He added that the public service machinery in Morobe should be reviewed and improved to effectively deliver goods and services to the people.
He said the capacity of the service delivery mechanism should be rebuilt to respond to the demands of the people.
Mr Vincent said public servants should upgrade their skills and knowledge.
He said these officers should step up their work and ensure that the people gain maximum benefit from resource developments in the province.
He touched on the logging operations in his electorate, which he said, had left nothing behind for the resource owners.
“There must be real spin-off benefits for the people. When the logging company went, the only thing left is bush.”
Mr Vincent also commended the LLGs in his electorate for holding the people together and ensuring Government services were delivered in the last five years.
He said the electorate had no MP on the floor of Parliament but that did not stop the LLGs and the councillors from working with the people and the administration.

Sapuri re-elected to lead PNGMS

PROFESSOR Mathias Sapuri has been re-elected as the president of the PNG Medical Society (PNGMS) for the fourth consecutive term.
Dr Sapuri was elected last Tuesday during the society’s annual general meeting where he will serve for another three years.
Dr Sapuri said he would make, for the next three years, all Papua New Guineans have access to better health services.
“I have new visions and goals for providing better health needs for the people of PNG,” he said.
