Correctional officer charged

By SENT TIMBI
A CORRECTIONAL Services officer in Enga province was arrested and charged by Wabag police last Tuesday for allegedly being involved in a car theft in the recent election.
Acting Enga provincial police commander chief inspector Martin Lakari said the Correctional officer allegedly kept a vehicle bought by former Lagaip-Porgera MP Kappa Yarka for use in the electorate.
Mr Lakari said the vehicle was stolen when the driver of the vehicle parked it outside a church one Sunday morning while attending church.
The vehicle was a 10-seater wagon.
The Correctional officer was in police custody awaiting court appearance.
He and his accomplices allegedly took the vehicle away and hid it on the day the Electoral Commission announced that Mr Yarka lost his seat to newcomer Philip Kikala.
Police are still looking for the vehicle.
Police are also seeking the return of two vehicles for the Kompiam-Ambum electorate.
Mr Lakari said the vehicles were purchased by former Member for Kompiam-Ambum Dickson Maki.
The vehicles were stolen after Mr Maki lost his seat in the election.
Mr Lakari said they believed a teacher was involved in the theft and that police were on the lookout for him.
