A SCOTCH Finger biscuit pack believed to be counterfeit was found in a
Madang store by a customer who alerted product brand maker Paradise
Foods Ltd (PFL).
PFL this week put out a warning on the fake product in The National and
had also launched an investigation into its sale.
“We have informed the ICCC (Independent Consumer and Competition
Commission) and are currently co-operating with it on the
investigation,” PFL managing director David Peate said.
PFL was also currently investigating the counterfeit biscuit to see if
there are any health risks that may arise from it.
It was alleged that the product contained egg and dairy products and
there was no identification on the pack of the ingredients used.
“Paradise Foods was made aware of the counterfeit product after we were
alerted by one of our customers in Madang and the sample sent to us,” Mr
Peate said.
He said people or businesses found to be breaking the law (selling this
fake Scotch Finger biscuits) would be dealt with accordingly.
“Although we cannot give exact figures, it is important to note that
counterfeit products do not only rob the company and the hardworking
employees but also the country as a whole,” Mr Peate said.
He said the fake biscuit had been imported from China while the genuine
counterpart was produced in PFL Port Moresby factory.
The company had set up a toll-free number 180 2005 and consumers and
customers can call in to assist with any information.
