Papuans not doing enough

I REFER to the letters “Central hard done by” (Aug 31) by “Kerekere Nihere” and “Suffering the consequences of selfish leaders’ decisions” (Sept 4) by “Papuan Mori”.
Both writers accused leaders like Maori Kiki, Tom Koraea, Ebia Olewale and Dr Reuben Taureka for not fighting for Papua self independence during the time the four regions of the country collectively came under one name, Papua New Guinea, to gain independence.
I challenge both writers and the Papuans, who share the same dream, to simply digest their aspirations. You are simply wasting your precious time expressing something that will never eventuate at this point in time and in the future.
Be proud of being part of the independent state of Papua New Guinea. What you need to do now is to stand firm on your God given land and capitalise on the opportunities in front of you.
It is fortunate that the capital city is situated in your region. So make use of any available opportunities. Be creative and innovative in doing something to show the people from other regions that you are proud Papuans who can sustain and contribute in terms of economic empowerment, human resources, immense developments in agriculture and fisheries, and other micro and macro enterprises.
Try to contribute something positive to your region and the country.
