Sir Paulias urges nation to repent, forgive others

By ALISON ANIS
GOVERNOR-General Sir Paulias Matane has challenged the nation and its leaders to make a U-turn for God in their lives and to be repentant of all wrongdoing and live as His son Jesus did.
He told Papua New Guineans to seek God’s forgiveness and to forgive others who had wronged against them and consecrate their lives to God.
Sir Paulias was present during a prayer service held at the Government House in Konedobu yesterday with wife Lady Kaludia, where they joined pastors of various churches in the country including members of the diplomatic corps and prominent public figures who were among a list of invited guests for the National Day of Prayer.
Sir Paulias told individuals to live orderly lives by imitating Jesus Christ and urged corporate entities, Government departmental heads and corporate executives to make special arrangements for devotional and prayer days within their organisations.
His speech was telecasted live via Wantok Radio Light where he also made declarations for all departments, agencies, affiliations, connections and resources of the State, where he is the head, to be placed at the feet of Jesus Christ for the benefit of the people of PNG.
He said because PNG was a Christian nation as enshrined in the Constitution, “we all have to live according to Christian principles, which can be found under the Ten Commandments of God.
“Papua New Guineans for 32 years, had a Constitution which stipulated that PNG is a Christian nation, but it has taken us all these years to finally ratify the matter by the Prime Minister,” Sir Paulias said.
The National Executive Council officially recognised Sept 6 as the national day of prayer beginning last September with Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare being the first to make a commitment on Independence Hill in Port Moresby as a father of the nation to denounce all forms of idol worship.
Sir Paulias said he accepted and acknowledged the commitment by Sir Michael and the terms and conditions of the covenant he signed recently during the All Pacific Prayer Assembly where he also dedicated the nation to God.
