Lufa MP and vice-minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Yawa Silupa has congratulated Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare on the appointment of his new cabinet.
Mr Silupa said the choices were difficult to make given the field of 86 MPs, from a coalition of different political parties.
In welcoming the new cabinet, he supported the call by former deputy prime minister and now Works, Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Don Polye, that the time for politics was over and MPs should instead focus their attention on serving the people.
“As MPs, our primary responsibility is to serve the people and that appointments to constitutional offices were an added responsibility and commitment,” he said.
Mr Silupa said he was happy to be appointed as the Parliamentary secretary for Health and HIV/AIDS, and thanked the Prime Minister for having the trust and confidence in him.
He also congratulated Huon Gulf MP and new Health and HIV/AIDS Minister Sasa Zibe.
Mr Silupa said he was looking forward to working closely with Mr Zibe to address health and HIV/AIDS problems and issues in the country.
He said the status of health services and the fast growing HIV/AIDS epidemic was a big concern, and together with the new minister, they should be able to do their best to address them.
He also congratulated the Member for Unggai Bena Benny Allan on his appointment as Conservation and Environment Minister and commended Sir Michael again for having one Eastern Highlander in cabinet.
