Digicel backs Hiri festival

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
DIGICEL yesterday pledged a total of K50,000 towards the hosting of this year’s Hiri Moale Festival.
At a presentation at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Port Moresby yesterday, Digicel marketing manager Peter Watinga said his company was happy to assist events which showcased the talent of youths and the preservation of culture and tradition.
A grateful Hiri Moale Festival chairman Councillor Opao Udia said he was elated to have Digicel support the event.
“Although a newcomer in PNG, Digicel is able to assist an event which has become an icon of Port Moresby and the Central province.”
Mr Udia said about K800,000 was needed to host this year’s event.
The festival will be held next Saturday.
Meanwhile, 16 young women have nominated to contest the Hiri Hanenamo pageant.
