Crushers confident
MINOR premiers Wio Kin Kamkumung Crushers are confident of booking their grand final berth when they take 14B Pirates in the major qualifying semi-final in the A grade division of Lae SP rugby League this weekend. The winner will have a bye to play in the grand final while looser will take the winner of Lae Panthers and Highway Inn Royals’ game this Sunday.
Crushers had a bye last weekend and have everything to throw out on the field with their rhetoric support from Kamkumung settlements. LRL president Russ Kaupa said that all the major qualifying semi-finals will be completed by this weekend before the grand final the following weekend.

Chimbus in basketball
THE Chimbu Basketball junior side is now hard at training to take part in national Junior Under 18 championships. Organisers have already selected 14 boys and 16 girls to represent the province at the championships which are due at the upcoming school holiday.
Organiser Joe Gigmai praised the young talented players for getting involved in Basketball. The teams are made of students from Kundiawa Lutheran High School and nearby village youths.
Gigmai said they have written local firms for sponsorship and were still waiting. He said he can be contacted on 735 1292 or Mobile 694 1246.

Kick start for Nandex
PNG Kick Boxing Association received first of its major boosts from TKI Manpower, an OK Tedi based company, with a cheque of K10 000 to help stage the national trials to be staged at the end of this month.
The meeting of the PNG’s best is aimed to select a strong 20 men squad to prepare a Team PNG captained by world renowned kick boxing hero Stanley ‘the head hunter’ Nandex to face the rest of the world, which will be made up of professional kick boxers around the globe.
Nandex, who is looking after the affairs of the sport in Pacific, when thanking TKI Manpower boss David K. Atterwell for the huge support to help stage the round robin fight, said that everyone should be involved in the event as it was an opportunity to market our talents in kickboxing overseas to tap into the lucrative market, especially in Europe and US.
The kickboxing trials will be staged at the new look Sports Inn Arena from September 29 and the selected players will undertake two months intensive training at Bluff Inn Motel in Port Moresby and OK Tedi in Tabubil in preparation to meet the rest of the world team.

Bowls get sponsorship
NIUGINI Tablebirds had officially sponsored the Mixed 4s national bowls championships to be held in Lae over the long Independence weekend. More than 100 bowlers from the five bowling playing centres in PNG will converge to Lae to take part in the Niugini Tablebirds Mixed 4s National Bowls championships.
General manager Richard Greenhalgh handed over a cheque of K6,000 to Lae Bowls Clubs secretary Albert Barakeina and his local organising committee to start preparing towards hosting of the national championships. ‘Niugini Tablebirds is proud to provide financial support to the local organising committee to start preparing towards the hosting of the national 4s mixed championships,’ Greenhalgh said.
The company had been a continuous sponsor in the past, he said, adding the new sponsorship will be for three years.

Four confirm participation
FOUR centres have confirmed their participation at the PNG/AFL championships in Lae next weekend. AFL/PNG rules council vice-president Thomas Gori confirmed the venue during the presentation of trophies after the Lae/AFL grand final on Sunday.
The five centres will participate in the championships to select PNG Mosquitoes for the International Cup in Melbourne in August next year. Four centres Mt Hagen, Kimbe NCD and host Lae will take part in the national championships, Gori said.
He urged all the selected players to pay their levy fees of K50 before close of business today.

Lae Biscuit gives
LAE BISCUIT Spiders rugby league club were proud recipients of a new set of rugby league gurneys valued at more than K10,500 from its sponsor Lae Biscuit Co to play off in the Lae rugby league finals. The money was part of the K24,000 sponsorships package that covers training gear, promotional items and cash incentives to the players and officials in the A, B and Under 19 grades.
‘Lae Biscuit is pleased to have associated with the Spiders rugby league club over the past 20 years and we are pleased to continue that relationship with the club to see it succeed in venturing into programmes and activities that would support your operations into the future,’ national sales and marketing manager Justus Rapula said in a statement.
‘We confirm to your management a sponsorship package of K24,000 that covers training balls, A Grade match incentives (K3,000), B Grade (K1,500) and Under 19 (K500), coaches - A grade K500, B Grade K300 and Under 19 K200,’ he said.
‘Part of the sponsorship package includes weekly promotional biscuits valued at K1, 200; 400 running T-shirts valued at K2,800, 100 running T-shirts and training equipment worth K700.’
