THE National Government announced that it will honour its outstanding
memorandum of agreement (MoA) of hydrocarbon projects in funding major
infrastructure developments in the Southern Highlands province in the
current life of Parliament.
Acting Prime Minister Dr Puka Temu announced this to more than 20,000
people at Tari’s Andaija Oval last Friday.
The Mining Minister, accompanied by Patrick Pruaitch (Treasury and
Finance), Paul Teinstein (National Planning), William Duma (Petroleum
and Energy), Arthur Somare (State Enterprises), Southern Highlands
Governor Anderson Agiru, Tari Pori MP James Marabe and Oil Search
managing director Peter Botten, went on a whirlwind tour of Kutubu,
Moran and Hides Gas project sites last week before stopping over to
address the crowd in Tari.
Dr Temu told the Hela people the Government would honour its outstanding
MoA commitments of Hides and Moran projects to fund major infrastructure
developments in their area.
The projects include Mendi to Lake Kopiago road sealing, the Tari
Hospital redevelopment estimated at K20 million, the Tari airport
redevelopment to international status estimated at K20 million, Tari to
Homa-Pawa road project estimated at K150 million, the Gulf-SHP Highway
linking Sembirigi, Erave, Kagua and Highlands Highway at Ialibu
estimated to be at K100 million.
Dr Temu assured the Hela people that the Government was committed to get
these projects off the ground.
Mr Botten also promised to support the provincial government through its
tax credit scheme to fund priority projects.
Dr Temu said the National Alliance Party-led Government was still keen
in pursing the new Hela province issue.
