A TOTAL of 29 exhibitors have confirmed their attendance for this week’s ‘PNG Experience Tourism Expo’ to be staged at Port Moresby’s Holiday Inn hotel.
The expo will start on Wednesday and end on Saturday.
The annual expo organised by the PNG Tourism Industry Association (PNGTIA) will feature exhibitors from the tourism industry as well as other corporate organisations throughout the country.
Several participants from Australia, the United Kingdom and China have also indicated their interest to attend the event which is sponsored by Telikom PNG.
Organisers say the expo will showcase community-based organisations that were engaged in various tourism businesses.
They included the Kokoda Trek Authority and Hegigo Eco-tourism lodge which is being set up in the Kutubu area of Southern Highlands province.
Other participants will include the Milne Bay and East New Britain tourism bureaus, the Dive Centre and the Surfing Association of PNG.
Chairman of the organising committee and president of PNGTIA Michael Buleau said the expo aimed to promote tourism awareness and development in the country.
“The benefits of tourism are many,” he said.
“It has immediate flow-through to thousands of employees and their families right throughout the country, then there are benefits associated with promoting and preserving our many cultures, traditions as well as our beautiful natural resources, flora and fauna.”
Meanwhile, preparations are well underway for the expo with overseas participants expected to arrive in Port Moresby.
