AN ATTEMPT to rob a company in Gordon, Port Moresby, last Saturday went wrong for three suspects when bystanders turned on them.
One of them was badly beaten and sustained a big cut on his head, causing him to bleed profusely after some members of the public bashed him with a garden tool at the driveway of Starland Freezers just next to Garden Hills.
Police said a senior security staff of a large company also helped arrest one of the suspects by pointing a gun to his head until police arrived.
Motorists were forced to slow down along Waigani Ave while driving towards Stop ‘n’ Shop as onlookers ran in all directions to have a look.
In fact, some of them took part in beating up one suspect.
Eyewitnesses at Garden Hills told The National at about 3pm, three men were chased down along Goroa St towards Waigani Drive just off Garden Hills.
It was here that the security officer who had his vehicle parked at the freezer’s premises noticed the men running, took his gun out and aimed it at the suspects, who stopped and surrendered.
The other suspect was caught and beaten up by some pursuing men and bystanders who later joined in the mauling.
