Waste of water at cops barracks

By CLIFFORD FAIPARIK
A BROKEN pipe is making the day for several kids at the Gordon police barracks - it has provided them a nice dipping pool to cool themselves throughout the day.
They were dipping and playing in the pool’s cool water, courtesy of a broken pipe nearby.
Water has been leaking from the broken pipe since the start of this month and the children’s fun was expected to go on.
It is learnt that Eda Ranu, the city water provider, said it would not fix the broken pipe because it was supposed to be the job of the Police Department’s maintenance unit.
The main valve is inside the barracks compound, so Eda Ranu cannot do any thing “as it is now an internal matter”, meaning, it’s the police responsibility being inside barracks premises.
“We only fix broken pipes outside any premises,” Eda Ranu said.
Barracks residents said the commandant was aware of it but had yet to act on the leaking pipe.
“In fact, the pool of water is right in front of his office.”
Residents said water had been leaking out due to broken main pipes.
“We’re getting low water pressure because of this leak,” they told The National.
Meanwhile, the barracks’ commandant was not available for comments.
