THE new five-star hotel for Port Moresby is one of the three major impact projects that must be delivered in the first 100 days of this Government, Commerce and Industry Minister Gabriel Kapris said last Friday.
“The Prime Minister had tasked us to deliver three impact projects within the first 100 days. I noted that this department had 28 on-going major and minor projects,” Mr Kapris said when speaking at his welcoming ceremony.
He said that in meeting with the Government expectations and consistent with the Prime Minister’s tasked activities, the three priority projects to be deliver are the CMSS International Hotel, the Drimgas-Duara road project and the Madang Industrial Marine Park.
“We will focus on delivering these three projects as a matter of Government priority.”
Mr Kapris said to effectively and efficiently manage many of the projects from feasibility to planning to implementation and project close, the functions of Trade from Foreign Affairs must be returned to Commerce and Industry Department.
“Most of these on-going projects involve dealing with foreign transnational business and businessmen,” he said.
“These are people and companies that conduct business across national borders of different nations. Our department is resourceful, empowered by various Acts of Parliament and has the capacity and technical capabilities to advise and assist drive new foreign investment.”
