Lockyer steals show at awards presentation night

BRISBANE Broncos captain Darren Lockyer stole the show during the 2007 SP Cup rugby league competition end of the season SP Lager Awards presentation night at Crowne Plaza in Port Moresby last Friday.
Lockyer, a household name throughout rugby league-crazed PNG was the guest speaker at the gala event.
He was accompanied by an Australian TV station Channel Nine team.
The NRL star was considered one of the best fullbacks ever to wore number one jersey in any to level of the modern era of the code, but he had since switched positions to five-eighth.
On Friday night he told the guests at the presentation night that he was excited and at the same time humbled to be part of an event leading to the 2007 SP Cup grand final between Agmark Gurias and Muruks which the latter won comprehensively yesterday.
ìI am proud to be here tonight to be part of the party celebrating with you all for the game with your country being the only nation in the world to have rugby league as the national sport,î said Lockyer.
The SP Lager awards won by players for the 2007 season in different categories are as follows:
*Player of the year and golden boot winner - Menzie Yere (Agmark Gurias)
*Player of the year - Runner up: Benjamin John (Brian Bell Bulldogs)
*Rookie of the year - Nixon Kolo (Wari Vele Raiders)
*Rookie of the year - Runner up: (Mathew Puke (Mabey & Johnson Muruks)
