Angoram has gone backwards
I GREW up and went to school in
Angoram. It used to be a happy place and was the central point
for people along the Sepik River to do their business such as
shopping, banking, postal services, etc.
Right now Angoram em big bus i karamapim.
All the basic services have come to a halt. There is no power
supply. People are using kerosene to light lamps and cook while
those who are better off, have and use generators.
There is no water supply. Those who live near the Sepik River
are using the river to do their washing, etc. Those who live
further in, use water from wells dug among the sago palms, while
others are forced to rely on the damaged and leaking tanks put
there since the days of the kiaps.
The sub-health centre does not cater any more to the sick people
who need to be admitted, women do not give birth there anymore,
and even minor surgeries are not done anymore.
People no longer use black buckets but pit toilets.
The Angoram primary and high schools are using pit toilets. Now,
it is a day school because it cannot cater for boarding
students. Most students who are attending Angoram High School
are forced to live with their relatives. Others go elsewhere or
are forced to stop schooling.
I would like to appeal to our Member Arthur Somare to tell the
people of Angoram of what plans he has for the next five years.
