GRA hands over completed projects

By VERONICA MANUK
The Gazelle Restoration Authority (GRA) handed over four recently completed projects to the East New Britain provincial government last Friday.
The projects completed were Londrip/Sikut cocoa nurseries worth K2,357,485.20 funded by the World Bank, construction of water supply headwork to Gelegele (health centre) resettlement water bore which was funded by the European Union at the cost of K425,000, construction of silt traps 1 and 2 funded by the World Bank worth K21,999,890.79 and major repairs and upgrading of the Ah Tam Dawapia wharf also funded by the World Bank at a cost of K9,166,821.58.
Speaking on behalf of the GRA board chairman, Poe Apelis said the successful completion of the project demonstrated GRA’s on-going commitment in restoring essential infrastructure, economic and social service projects to improve the provision of cocoa seedlings, access to clean water, reduction of silt built up under the two main wharves and the wharf facilities in Rabaul.
He said the four projects were part of a total of 116 that were approved for implementation by the provincial administration and GRA in 1999.
Mr Apelis thanked the donor agencies, the provincial government and the people for the support given during the restoration period.
Provincial administrator, Aquila Tubal commended GRA for completing the projects on time and within budget.
