Sir Julius urges UoV to be future orientated

New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan has the urged the University of Vudal to move from a local to a more regional and international face.
He said he had suggested two years ago for the University of Vudal to change its name to the PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment.
“I believe that the university with its new name will have a greater impact and role to play in the Pacific as well as the small Island States,” Sir Julius said.
“The time has come for us to surge and to surpass the role of knowledge production and into the higher level of knowledge and intellectual harvesting.”
He made the remarks in a speech yesterday to mark the 10th anniversary of the university.
Sir Julius said the university must now enter into a breakthrough mode of operation in the fields of agricultural, fisheries, science and human livelihood and must become future oriented.
“They should not develop comfort zones. They must continue to discover new knowledge,” he said.
He further called on the university to assert its influence in the New Guinea islands and later to impact the nation and the whole Pacific region.
“This university must lead into the business centre of the Pacific. Trade centres must be assembled and a hub for a multi-purpose and a multi-dimensional business trading where partnerships are vibrant and where society and livelihood are healthy with harmony,” Sir Julius said.
