St John has grown in PNG

THE service of St John Ambulance in Papua New Guinea is developing, the Deputy Lord Prior (establishments) from London John Strachan said upon his arrival in Port Moresby yesterday.
He is here for a three-day St John Asia-Pacific regional conference starting tomorrow.
“St John and PNG in recent years have made rapid strides to become a more active body, working to support the people of this country,” he said.
He said St John in PNG was like that in Fiji compared to Solomon Islands which he said was struggling unlike the associations in Asia especially Malaysia, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.
“We will be looking at St John’s role in supporting public health in various associations around Asia-Pacific, sharing experiences and ideas on how St John can be come more involved,” he said.
Chief St John officer Douglas Kelson, while welcoming Mr Strachan, said PNG was delighted to host the event, which coincides with St John’s 50 years of service in PNG.
The event is held every 18 months and PNG is the fourth country in the region to host it after Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong.
